What do you think of an America that invades another country to "free its people from tyranny?" Some say it's noble - some say it's wrong. Regardless, It seems every American publicly has sympathy for the people who fight to overthrow tyranny in their own country.
That's why it is so perplexing to see that there was nearly zero coverage of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's symposium in D.C. Earlier this month.
In Russia Garry Kasparov, the world chesss champion in his youth, is defying Putin's "presidency" by having the courage to run against him an the platform of a Free Press and a true democracy.
While this man stands courageously against tyranny, risking his life and that of his family, lilly-livered American politicians and journalists don't mention him in their speeches and columns. Are they too afraid of offending drawing the attention of He Who Must Not Be Named... or do they just not give a damn?
Since when have real americans failed to stand tall in support of our allies and friends? Mr. Kasparov is a friend in need if there ever was one. Will we support him? Any of you who know where I can donate to his political campaign, let me know.
Meanwhile, stay tuned. The Russian presidential "election" will take place in March 2008. Czar Putin will take severe actions to guarantee that the Russian people have no genuine choice in that election. Watch and see.
